Soldering of pipe is the first thing plumbers are taught at the plumbing school. If you are in the basement of your home and you notice that your copper pipe is leaking or drops of water are falling from pipe. First of all, you should try to solve this problem by yourself because plumber’s services are usually expensive. With the help of these tips, you can solve pipe-leaking problem easily.
Firstly, switch off your water’s main source. It would be a good idea to evacuate water system. It helps to avoid any floods there are. Place a bucket under the area of pipe that you are going to evacuate. Once you cut off your leaking pipes, add an extender. It will help you to count the length that was lost in the cutting of pipe.
Soldering of pipes
Propane torch kit is commonly used for soldering. Some people have wrong and unclear concepts about soldering. They think that soldering iron is used for sweating and soldering but in reality, we use propane torch for this purpose instead of soldering iron.
The copper pipes that we are soldering must be prepared. You can take some emery cloth, scrub and fine sandpaper that need to be soldered. Once you sand all your pieces, make sure that the links of the pipes are fitted right.
Heat the joint of the pipe 10 to 20 seconds with the blue flame of the fire. Copper should get hot enough to melt the solder. Never try to melt solder onto joint directly. You need to make the joint of the pipe hot enough to melt solder.
